All You Need to Know About Enrique Peña Nieto

Enrique Peña Nieto is adored for his movie star looks, earning him the nickname of “a male Barbie” or the “Beckham of the PRI party”. For many people in the country, he is the best bet for the coming elections. The other candidates have good reason to worry about Nieto.

Nieto has been getting steadily more and more popular for a while now. Nieto's talents at addressing the people are well-known, and they have served him well for some time now. He is said to be a most magnetic politician, with the ability to pull in voters as well as admirers.

Some of the critics are prone to saying that Nieto's repute is all due to a supposed deal he made with the most influential TV network in Mexico. He reportedly paid the mass media giant large sums of money over the last five years to advertise the accomplishments of his previous administration in the state of Mexico. This, they say, is why Televisa always seems to be in support of Nieto's work.

It is worth noting that people only began talking about this supposed deal following Nieto's admission of a relationship with Ms. Rivera of Televisa. Rivera is one of the most famous actresses from the network, a major star. Before Rivera, Nieto was in a marriage with Monica Pretelini, who died.

He and his first wife have three kids. It was while Nieto was functioning as a governor for the state of Mexico that his first wife died. This made Nieto one of the most popular single Mexicans in the country.

This popularity with the ladies makes up only a portion of his repute. Part of his previous gubernatorial campaign was traveling to different parts of the state, asking constituents what public works they need, and pledging to deliver these promises or commitments or what he calls “compromisos”. It is in relation to this that his concern for infrastructure has been noted.

When the infrastructure stated in these compromisos were finally erected, Pena Nieto turned into massive social affairs the inauguration of multiple public works projects week after week. This is perhaps one big reason for the man's reputation as a politician who actually keeps campaign promises. Detractors do say, though, that the lavish inaugurations for his public works were even more expensive than the actual public works.

His contenders and detractors also found more reasons to criticize him because of a recent controversy that happened when he presented his book “México: La Gran Esperanza” at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. It was discovered during the fair that Nieto was not capable of remembering the names of the people who had written some of his "top" books to read. Nieto's reason was that he preferred to expend more time remembering the body of the book instead of what was on its cover.

Unfortunately, quite a number of persons ridiculed him for it. It was made worse when one of his offspring, understandably upset about others' ridicule of her father, ended up saying something less than diplomatic about her father's opponents. While Peña Nieto acknowledged his mistakes and apologized for his daughter's emotional retort, his critics maintain their judgment on Nieto's lack of intellectual curiosity and spontaneity, and of being too dependent on scripted discourse.

Enrique Peña Nieto asserts that his words are often taken out of context by his detractors. Most people are still predicting his win in the polls, though. Surveys and polls are indicating that he may well be the next Mexican president.
